Ward 1 (Burton & Wright) • Ward 2 (Gann & Lyons) • Ward 3 (Shattuck & McBride)

Council Duties:
The Clinton City Council is made up of seven council members. They are the elected body of the City. The City Council is responsible for setting City policy through ordinances, resolutions and adopting the City's budget. The Council legislates by passing ordinances which become City laws.

All other official acts by the Council are done by passing a resolution which becomes effective upon passage by the Council and approval by the Mayor. The Council passes ordinances and resolutions by majority vote (four out of seven members). If a measure is vetoed by the Mayor, the veto may be overridden by the Council by a vote of five out of seven members. The Council further performs a role in hearing appeals regarding actions taken by a number of City agencies.

Council Meetings:
The Council meets on every third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the main assembly room of the City Hall building, 100 Bowling Street.   If you need directions, please click here.  Any change in the Council meeting's time or date will be announced on this site, as well as the local newspaper.  Public hearings are conducted at the beginning of each meeting.  If you were unable to attend a meeting and wish to know what was discussed, you may visit the Council's Minute page to view what was discussed and which ordinances were passed.
