Make sure you have working smoke alarms inside and outside each sleeping area, on every level of the home.
Test them at least twice a year and replace them according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
When choosing a smoke alarm, ensure it is third party certified.
Never disable your smoke alarms. If you can, make sure your smoke alarms are innerconnected and speaking to each other so if one sounds, they all sound.
