Upon arrival, officers learned that a verbal altercation had occurred inside the restaurant between suspects David Shifflett (44), Tyler Novak (27), and victim Jonathan Massey (33). The argument escalated, leading Shifflett and Massey outside where a physical confrontation ensued. During the fight, Novak allegedly stabbed Massey twice with a "box cutter" style blade.
Shifflett and Novak then fled the scene in a vehicle. Clinton Police officers quickly located the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on N. Charles Seivers Blvd. and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and, after driving through a business parking lot and down an embankment, came to a rest on railroad tracks.
Both suspects then fled on foot. Officers pursued and successfully took Shifflett and Novak into custody without incident near the intersection of Market St. and Commerce St. Shifflett and Novak were then transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility and charged with the following:
Novak - Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest, Tampering with Evidence, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication.
Shifflett - Driving Under the Influence, Evading Arrest, Reckless Driving, Disorderly Conduct, and Reckless Endangerment.
Jonathan Massey was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released.

An investigation into a serious head-on collision has resulted in multiple indictments against Daniel Jenkins, 43, following a thorough review by a grand jury.
The crash occurred in the 100 block of Clinch Avenue on 05/31/2025, when Jenkins, traveling northbound, crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on. The investigation revealed Jenkins was intoxicated, distracted by a cell phone, and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
On completion of the investigation, the case was presented to the Anderson County Grand Jury, which issued indictments against Jenkins for driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, prohibited uses of wireless telecommunications device, and violation of the open container law.
On September 11, 2025, Jenkins surrendered himself to the Anderson County Detention Facility, where he was formally booked on the charges. The case remains pending in the criminal court system. No further information will be released at this time.
